Sophon Cable TV in cooperation with Korean company LS Cable is to provide high-speed internet services through its cable TV network.

An agreement was signed on April 23 by Sophon chairman Chanyuth Hengtrakul and vice chairman Suwat Rachatawattanakul with senior vice president of LS Cable Dong Yong Kim and the company’s senior manager Kasan Kim.
Chanyuth said that the fast residential growth of Pattaya was driving demand for the expansion of public utilities including the internet, which is itself of growing importance in our daily lives. At present, he said, there are many people in Pattaya who are experiencing problems in accessing the internet as the existing systems are not keeping up with the growing demand.
“Sophon Cable TV has found a way of resolving this problem using modern technology supplied by a company in Korea. Members will be able to receive both cable TV and high-speed internet simultaneously,” he said.
Chanyuth said that testing is currently being carried out in some areas, and that the system would be expanded to cover all areas of Pattaya in the near future.

Inventive PCEC meeting

The Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting on Sunday, April 22nd at Henry J. Bean’s not only consisted of another full and varied morning but also a number of new people participated in the presentation of the meeting.

Stuart Saunders addresses the PCEC.
This week’s MC, Roger Fox started the proceedings by introducing this week’s main speaker, Stuart Saunders. Stuart is the PCEC’s resident inventor and has been doing so since the age of 12.
Stuart described a number of the devices which he has invented which were generally in the health, automotive, electronics and safety areas. He won the Queensland Inventor of the Year for an innovative cordless stereo system, described by Sony as ‘excellent’ and ‘brilliant’.
More recently Stuart won the Gold Medal at Taipei for his Credit Card Dental Floss, which is the only product of its kind in the world with a money back guarantee against oral halitosis.

Having invented these new products, Stuart went on to describe the unfortunate experiences he had had as far as obtaining patents for them was concerned. He described in detail the trials and tribulations he had come across in an attempt to ensure that his products were not unlawfully copied.
Chairman Andre Machielsen then reported on the PCEC trips, both upcoming and past. He reminded all those participating that the rescheduled visit to the Naruebet helicopter carrier at Sattahip naval base was to take place on Monday 30th April.
Andre then went on to confirm that the recent club trip to Koh Chang had been a great success. He described the activities which all those who went on it had enjoyed and displayed a number of photos taken on the trip. It has been proposed that future trips could include international destinations and the members were asked their opinion by way of a questionnaire.
In keeping with club’s policy to invite the attendees to participate in announcements, Graham Montgomerie provided the upcoming events. Howard Trafford described the activities of the Special Interest Groups
The regular Open Forum, mediated by Bob Letoile, was then underway and this proved to be the usual lively and entertaining session. For more information regarding, not only the PCEC Sunday meetings but also the varied mid week activities provided by the Special Interest Groups, please see the Community Happenings section of Pattaya Mail or, for more details, visit the Club’s website at pattayacityexpatsclub.com

The evening was sponsored by the California Wine Co Ltd, and rather than being a sit-down event was designed so that guests could wander around the different stands and make their own selection.
There were also a number of food stalls organized by the Royal Cliff’s noted chef Walter Thenisch.
This evening was a special one for another reason, namely the celebration of the sixth birthday of the Royal Cliff Wine Club, regarded as the best wine club in all of Asia, and the recipient of numerous international awards.

Pattaya Sports Club and the YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center donated more than 130,000 baht worth of supplies to elderly people during a visit by committee members from the two organizations to the Ban Banglamung Social Welfare Development Center on April 25.
The group, led by Nittaya Patimasongkroh, chairwoman of the YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center, and PSC charity chairman Bernie Tuppin, was welcomed by the center’s director Somdej Naenudorn.
Donated supplies included yellow shirts, hospital beds, 29-inch color TVs and ceiling fans, at a total value of 136,200 baht.
Singing and games marked the occasion, with the senior citizens joining in activities that included folk dancing and a quiz. Water was sprinkled as a blessing for the elderly, the most senior person present being 104-year-old Boonmee Nokkum.
Somdej said that the Ban Banglamung Social Welfare Development Center has been fortunate in receiving assistance from government and private organizations. Currently, he said, there is a need for 15 reclining hospital beds, as many of the residents can’t sleep properly in the old-style beds. All donations are gratefully received, said Somdej.
