A happy ending for Chakrit’s ear

Rotary, YWCA and a compassionate surgeon bring joy into a young boy’s life once again

Before surgery…

…After surgery.

Dr Olivier Meyer
During a regular visit to Huay Yai School, members of the YWCA met an 11-year-old boy, Chakrit, whose right ear was badly scarred. They contacted Dr Olivier Meyer, president of the Rotary Club Pattaya Marina, for medical advice.
Chakrit had suffered severe burns some years ago and has scars on his right arm, right cheek, scalp, and his right ear. He suffers considerable teasing from his schoolmates. His life is difficult because his parents have left, and it is his handicapped grandmother, aged 70, who takes care of him. Chakrit receives a yearly scholarship organized by the YWCA, which also supervises his school attendance and performance.
Dr Olivier contacted a colleague and friend in Bangkok, Dr Narong Nimsakul, a well-known plastic surgeon who immediately offered to operate on Chakrit’s ear for free. Rotary Club Pattaya Marina organized the logistics and journeys to Bangkok.
Chakrit had his initial surgery in mid-March. His ear already looks much better but still needs further treatment.
The Rotary Club Pattaya Marina will also help and sponsor him in the long term for his everyday life and studies.

Chakrit looks happy with nurses and his teacher at Dr Narong’s Clinic.
