advisor to the mayor, to add to the Princess Pa Foundation.
The performance was staged at the Alcazar Theater and was dedicated to
the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King, which will take place on
December 5.
Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawalee received funds from nine major
donators to add to the Princess Pa Foundation, while other funds raised
will go towards the Sai Yai Rak Project, in which vagabond children are
given occupational and social training that will enable them to take
their rightful place in mainstream society.

Princess Soamsawalee presents a token of appreciation to Bernie Tuppin,
Pattaya Sports Club Charity Chairman .
The YWCA worked in conjunction with the Dance Studio to organize the
ballet, and obtained royal approval to use the musical compositions of
His Majesty the King.
There were two sets during the evening, the first being the traditional
Kinnari Len Nam story translated into a modern Thai setting, the second
featuring the Kinnari Waltz composed by His Majesty and including jazz
dance and contemporary dance.
Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn, Suthep Chitayawong, director of the
Chonburi Zone 3 Education Department, and Itthipol Khunplome, chief
advisor to the mayor presented certificates and trophies to 85 first
class honors students from the 2007 education year at the Dance Studio
School.
The Dance Studio School is an educational choice school devoted to
physical training and international rhythm and dance, and its standards
are accepted worldwide.

Top models receive Maxim exposure in Pattaya
“I Love Fashion TV”
Two titillating events involving some of the world’s top
up and coming models took place in Pattaya on the evening of October 6th.
The first, held at the Amari Orchid Resort & Tower, was a party to welcome
Miss Maxim International winners from over 20 countries. The second took
place after the party, when distinguished guests and media were invited by
Elite Model Management South East Asia to take part in an exclusive voyage
aboard the Fashion TV yacht, the F. Diamond.
Maxim, a magazine boasting 4.5 million copies sold each month in 46
countries, obviously well known within the male population throughout the
world, opened the proceedings with a press conference to announce that a
photo shoot was taking place here in Pattaya from September 29 until October
10. In front of the lens were winners of the Miss Maxim contest from 20
countries.
Deputy
Mayor Ronakit welcomes the beauties to Pattaya.
Representing Thailand was Miss Kathayawan Noinawet, Miss Maxim Thailand
2007, who had just won her title in July this year.
In March this year, Maxim held their international conference in Koh Samui,
and since it was such a big success, Maxim’s UK headquarters decided they
couldn’t go wrong by choosing Thailand for this fun event. Pattaya seemed a
logical choice, and was therefore the willing host.
Alan Strutt, well known international modeling photographer, was here on
location to photograph the 20 models within Pattaya and its surrounding
area.
Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh commented, “This is a great occasion for our
city … welcoming top class models and professionals in the modeling field
from around the world. They can help promote the city and many of its
attractions, which will definitely bring in tourists and spread the good
image of our city through the Maxim magazine, calendar and promotional
DVDs.”
Following the press conference, a fashion show was put on featuring the
Maxim models; snacks were served by the Amari and a free flow of Chang Light
kept everyone hydrated. Once the fashion show finished, models were let
loose to mingle and pose for photos with the guests. Lucky local and
national press hounds were seen busily interviewing the models and the
management of the Maxim magazine.
Later, aboard the F. Diamond, guests were treated to snacks and a sufficient
flow of Chang Light, sponsors of the beer for the evening. This, however
nice it was, was still just a prelude to the big event, the weekly fashion
show up on the fashion deck where 50 international models were competing to
become Miss FTV.
As one lucky guest described it, “This was indeed an exciting event to be on
the famous FTV yacht, F. Diamond,” the fabulous new 140 meter long luxury
yacht that has 8 decks and over 200 luxury cabins, where the most exclusive
Fashion TV parties in the world are held, “mix with the international
fashion crowd where guests can see the models up close, watch them train,
compete and sunbathe 24 hours a day.”
The ship carries 3 nightclubs with international DJs, a cocktail bar, indoor
and outdoor restaurants, casinos, a stunning outdoor pool, a relaxing spa
and “chill out” lounges.
Fashion TV, founded by Michel Adam in 1997, who is now the president, is
already looking back on an incredible success story. In his exclusive
interview with PMTV he said, “Pattaya has meant a lot to me, and it will
always have a place in my heart.” About 10 years ago he started a print
screen shop here in Pattaya and from one it became 10 and gradually became a
thousand shops.
This year FTV is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a host of events and
activities throughout the year, including cruising around the world in the
F. Diamond.
Boasting a worldwide presence in more than 200 countries, FTV reaches 348
million households. Being the only global station focused exclusively on
fashion, beauty and style, FTV broadcasts the very latest fashion 24/7.
The F. Diamond Yacht Life Style World Tour will also feature the crowning of
Miss Fashion TV. Thirty international models will compete for the coveted
title each week. The highlight of the tour will be the Miss FTV Finals to be
held during the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing in August 2008.

Rotary is an amazing thing
Pattaya Clubs welcome DG Dr. Arnon and Siriratana Chirajavala
Elfi Seitz
On September 28, Governor of Rotary District 3340, Dr Arnon
Chirajavala made his official visit to three Rotary Clubs in Pattaya, where
he met with the presidents and secretaries of the Rotary Club Eastern
Seaboard, Rotary Club Jomtien-Pattaya, Rotary Club Pattaya Marina to learn
about their clubs activities for the good of the community and to give
advice and inform them of the developments in the Rotary world.
Jan
Abbink, RC Jomtien-Pattaya President, welcomes Rotarians and guests to the
District Governor’s fellowship dinner.
This is a customary duty of a district governor whereby he visits every
Rotary Club in his district at least once during his term in office.
District 3340 R.I. stretches from the northeastern most to the eastern-most
provinces in Thailand, so a Rotary District Governor’s job of visiting the
60 clubs in his district is quite an undertaking.
The business day being over, Rotary Club Presidents Steve Ryser (Eastern
Seaboard), Jan Abbink (Jomtien-Pattaya) and Nick Demet (Pattaya Marina)
along with members of their respective clubs, gathered in the ballroom of
Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa to greet the district governor and his
charming wife Siriratana for evening of cordial fellowship.
In his keynote speech, District Governor Dr. Arnon spoke about the events
that led him to serve as district governor.
Christian
Civet is inducted into the Rotary Club Pattaya Marina.
He said that his health was failing and the doctors did not have very good
news for him. He needed several bypass operations on his heart.
Nevertheless, as reluctant as he was, he went through the multiple heart
operations, not expecting ever to recover fully and that he would be an
ailing man all his life.
But as fate may have it, word reached his ears of the state of affairs of
his own Club, the Rotary Club of Buriram, which he loved dearly. He vowed to
get healthy as quickly as he could and work to put his club back on its
feet.
As his health returned, he did what he pledged and his Rotary Club thrived
again.
Seeing the super human strength in him, the Rotary elders approached Dr.
Arnon and asked whether he would serve Rotary as District Governor. “In
time” said the good doctor. “Let me fully recover first.”
Recover he did and a Rotary district governor he did become. “Rotary is an
amazing thing!” exclaimed the philanthropist. “Do you know that after my
operation I began to become more involved in Rotary work of doing good in
the world. The more I served the people, the healthier I became and now I
must say that I’m as fit as a fiddle.
“Rotary makes me happy, I’m always thrilled to go out and seek those who
need help and to look for ways to meet those challenges to alleviate their
suffering.”
Dr Arnon encouraged people in Thailand and throughout the world to make
every effort in promoting the ideals of Rotary. “Rotary clubs need more
members to be more powerful in supporting charity projects,” he said
emphatically.
His call was heard loud and clear and out of the crowd, a group of Rotarians
and potential members approached Dr. Arnon to get his blessings to form a
new Rotary Club in Pattaya. The new Rotary Club of Phönix Pattaya will be a
German speaking club.
To further endorse the call for membership Christian Civet had the honour of
being inducted by the district governor as the newest member of the Rotary
Club Pattaya Marina.
The formalities having ended, DG Dr. Arnon and his wife Siriratana proved
their prowess behind the microphone, entertaining the guests with their
exquisite singing in Thai and Chinese.
Not to be outdone, German-speaking Rotarians gave their rendition of “Muss i
denn zum Städtele hinaus.”
Unbeknown to anyone, a secret wager took place between Presidents Steve and
John as to whether DGE Peter Malhotra was to speak at the function. John
said ‘yes’ but Steve said ‘no’. Steve won the wager and John donated 1000
baht to the club’s charity fund.
Confused by Peter’s silence, they asked him why he didn’t speak. Peter said,
“This is the governor’s official visit. He brings goodwill and knowledge
from the President of Rotary International. He gives us advice, is thrilled
by our achievements, but is also concerned about our difficulties. He is big
brother and father to us. It is him and only him who speaks. It’s the
District Governor’s night and we are here to honour him.”

Demet, and Past President Marliese Fritz.

Red Carpet Affair at the Amari
Amari Orchid Resort and Tower on September 28 held a Red Carpet Affair
pre-opening party for its brand new Ocean Tower.
The
new luxurious 5-star Ocean Tower wrapped in a red ribbon.
Guests entering through the hotel entrance were welcomed by a gaggle of
hostesses wearing red, who led guests along a red carpet for registrations
and photo taking with the management, similar to arriving at a movie premier
or the Oscars.
Red Horse Ale was served as the welcome drink as guests arrived at the
Garden Lounge where the gathering was held within site of the new luxurious
5-star Ocean Tower, which was appropriately wrapped in a red ribbon. On
stage, the hotel’s Trio Band painted out beautiful tunes, followed by a
magic show and red ribbon ballet performed by the Dance Studio Pattaya.
Patchari Raksawong, the emcee for the night, welcomed everyone and
introduced the night’s programs. This was followed by an informal welcoming
speech from general manager Dominik Stamm who relayed to the guests about
this 1-billion baht Ocean Tower, a 5-star wing of the hotel with 20 floors
and 297 rooms, which will be ready to serve the world from November 1
onwards. Ocean Tower stands alongside the existing 4-star Garden Wing of the
resort in North Pattaya. Dominik then revealed that this red carpet campaign
will continue until the Chinese New Year.

The highlight of the night was the fashion show performed by the Miss
Thailand World team led by Nikallaya Dulaya, Miss Thailand World 2004, Jamie
Lynn, Varunya Kijwattana, and Jutarat Maneethada the Miss Thailand World
2007 second, third and forth runners-up.
Prizes were given out to lucky winners of the lucky draw while a continuous
flow of beer, wine and finger food kept the guests full and happy.
Bhakanundh Thanasom, director of public relations, said Ocean Tower is a
self-contained hotel that has extensive meetings and conference facilities
that can support up to 500 people, and adds significantly to the MICE
facilities of Pattaya City.
Guests at Ocean Tower also have access to the existing facilities of the
resort, including the very popular Henry J Bean’s restaurant and the Mantra
Restaurant and Bar.

PCEC witnesses
a real estate explosion
The real estate explosion in
Jomtien is evident in these before and after photos.
A busy programme was presented to yet another full house
at this week’s meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) on Sunday
September 30th at Henry J. Bean’s.
The morning got underway with this week’s MC Richard Silverberg who
welcoming back Clayton Wade, managing director of Premier Homes Real Estate.
With eleven years experience in the Pattaya market, Clayton provided an
update on the Pattaya property market. He provided specific information
regarding the Real Estate Broker Association (REBA). The REBA works closely
with the Thai Government in lifting the ethical and professional standards
of real estate agents and brokers by conforming to official Thai Government
policies in addition to international real estate standards. The association
now has 17 members consisting of the top agencies and is expected to
increase this membership to 30. The URL of their website is www.rebaes.org.
Clayton commented on the explosive growth of available real estate in the
Pattaya area, particularly that of Jomtien and the dramatic increase in the
cost per square meter over the previous five years.
Accompanying Clayton was John Seymour, managing director of Northern Thai
Realty. John specifically addressed the condominium market which was of
great interest to the attendees. John explained how the condominium market
had changed over the years to the extent that higher quality units were now
expected. He commented that the previously speculative boom was now over and
whilst the market could be considered to be in the doldrums he expected a
buoyant 2008.
Comparing condominium purchases in Bangkok with Pattaya the statistics
indicated that 85% of purchasers in Bangkok were made by Thais compared with
35% in Pattaya, the remainder in both cases being foreign.
John commented that the current regulation restricting foreign ownership to
49% of a condominium building was currently under review and it was hoped
that the percentage would be increased.
Clayton and John answered a large number of questions from the floor
particularly regarding the pitfalls which could be encountered during a
property sale.
Further announcements included Michel de Goumois who provided the reminder
that the next club dinner was scheduled for October 4th at La Arcate
restaurant, Thappraya Road. Marjorie Blissett announced that some members
had signed up for her English cooking classes. Chairman Richard Smith
announced that a new mid week activity, that of a Photography Club was due
to start in the near future. Richard also provided the results of the recent
trip survey which indicated that Cambodia was the favoured destination.
The regular Open Forum was then underway led by Bob L’Etoile ably assisted
by Sig Sigworth which is rapidly becoming the much anticipated Bob and Sig
show! As usual this proved to be the usual lively and entertaining session.
For more information regarding, not only PCEC Sunday meetings but also the
many mid week activities, please see the Community Happenings section of
Pattaya Mail or, for more details, visit the Club’s website at
