Re: Eric Bahrt’s warning
about Angeles City
Editor;
I do get annoyed when I see quite irresponsible letters telling everybody
not to go to a particular city just because they have experienced a bad
time.
In ‘Eric Bahrt’s’ letter he has tried to get across a view that anybody
staying in Angeles City will have their safe deposit opened and contents
taken. As much as Angeles City is not the size of Pattaya it does contain
many hotels of varying standards, some extremely luxurious. I have lived
throughout the Philippines and also in Angeles City and have never
experienced the unfortunate incident that ‘Eric Bahrt’ mentions in his
letter. I am sure he appreciates that what happened to him in Angeles City
has happened on more than one occasion here in Pattaya but to date I have
not seen a letter deterring potential visitors from coming to our own fair
city! They are isolated incidents that happen everywhere.
‘Eric Bahrt’s’ comments about underage girls intrigues me, especially the
bit about ‘it doesn’t matter if you are innocent’. As they advise in any sex
tourist town you need to make sure that the girls you meet are above the age
of consent. For most of us that means going into established bars where the
girls have IDs. In Angeles all working girls from bars have to have IDs
signed by the mayor to confirm they are above 18. If she does not have one
then you are taking a risk that many smart people would not take, that is
common sense for which ever city in the Far East you travel to.
Again ‘Eric’ the comment that a ‘friend’ of yours was accused of molesting
an underage girl after he was merely selected by police for standing outside
a bar is too ridiculous to believe except of course unless the accusations
were true. If it was a scam it would be on every web board from Angeles to
here. To date I have not seen anything although I will be looking!
Personally Eric I would watch who I count as my friends as you seem to mix
with some dodgy types!
On a final note if you really want to know what is going on in Angeles look
up harrythehorse.com. The website contains a monthly appraisal of everything
that is taking place in the city. He will highlight any scams, and there are
a few, but reading his web page and being a responsible tourist will ensure
that you do have a great time in Angeles, just like myself and many
thousands of others.

Congratulations
from America
Editor;
I am an American and hope to relocate to Jomtien Beach this fall. I read
your paper and find that it keeps me informed and up to date on local news
and current issues. You do an excellent job and I am so happy that I found
you. Congratulations on your years of success!

Fearing a dangerous situation exists
Editor;
Hello, I am writing this letter because I fear that a dangerous situation
exists which could result in tragedy. I was shopping at Villa Supermarket in
Pattaya Sunday night around 8 pm with my son who is 19 years old who is
autistic. My son and the checker were pushing our cart full of groceries
towards the taxi stand in front of the mall area. I approached the first
meter taxi (Meter Taxi No. 6) and asked if he would take us with the meter
price. He said “No” loudly, stinking of alcohol.
I didn’t waste any time to move to the next taxi driver, who was a little
more polite (Meter Taxi No 13), but from behind me the first drunk driver
began yelling at me and the other driver insisting that no meter taxi in
Pattaya and I should leave. He then picked up a traffic cone and began to
attack me! A woman who was with him pulled him back, I moved back to the
entrance and asked security to help us cross the street to get a baht bus.
The security did little, in fact the driver came again trying to start a
fight. I was not in the mood to deal with a drunk idiot and all I wanted to
do is get home with my son. The drunk driver then went to his trunk to get a
tire iron. I had managed to get a baht bus to take us home, and we were
filling up the back when the drunk driver started to demand to our baht bus
driver not to move so that he could hit us!
I tried to call the police 1155, but there was no answer! Lucky our driver
took off, and the drunk driver seemed unable to get his keys together to
start his engine to chase us.
I worry that other unsuspecting people that get confronted like this,
especially tourists. This at a time when an international crisis is slowing
down tourism all over the world, does Pattaya need to have this kind of
incidents to hurt its image?
I love it here, but I can’t condone a bully anywhere. This kind of behavior
is intolerable and humiliating and frightening to tourists or anyone. It
gives a mafia image to Pattaya meter taxis. I for one will not let this go.
I write about this and post it as a warning. Drunk drivers kill people, and
never should a public meter taxi be driven by a dangerous violent drunk!

Frank McKenzie, R.I.P.
Frankie, a much loved & respected brother of Pit Bull
M.C. Pattaya recently had a tragic, fatal accident in his home country of
Canada whilst doing what he loved best - freedom riding his Harley Davidson
motorcycle. This man was very special in his understanding of life and was
sadly taken from us just 2 weeks ago.
All of his ‘brothers’ & friends here in Thailand will always remember
Frankie as a great guy and we would like to send our sincere feelings and
condolences to his family & friends in Canada and our thoughts are with them
at this time.
Frankie’s planned life in Thailand with his loving partner Moo has now been
taken away from them both, but with our close feelings for one another
Frankie will always be with us and forever in our thoughts.
Ride in Peace Brother
