Jesters officially open new facilities at Noenkraprog School
Lewis Underwood
Soon after our September events last year, Khun Bic, who has been
instrumental in finding needy projects for years now, alerted us to the
situation at Noenkraprog Primary School. This public school, which is just
outside Ban Chang, about 4 kms before the Camillian Social Center, had only
5 toilets for 277 students.
The
new toilets were built with 282,700 baht worth of donated funds.
The director, Somdej Angsila, was in dire need for more, but said here was
no budget. However, since this has become one of our specialties, we agreed
to construct an additional 10 toilets for them.
While work was in progress, we noticed that the nearby canteen also needed
attention. In fact, we discovered that not only was the roof structure
rotten from termite infestation, but also that the kitchen beneath could use
a major makeover.
Consequently, we replaced the entire roof with new tiles and iron supports,
instead of wood. In the kitchen, we put in a concrete serving counter, wash
basin and cooking shelf. The latter was done to get the propane burners up
off the floor and keep if from getting greasy. We also provided an aluminum
hood and extraction fan over the cooking area and then ceramic-tiled the
floor, serving counter and wall above it. Ultimately, what was not tiled,
was painted.

Many other finishing touches, such as rerouting plumbing and sorting
electrics, were carried out not only for convenience’s sake, but also to
make conditions safer. When it was all said and done the two projects cost a
total of 506,700 baht.
These renovations would not have been possible without the kind donations
from the following to whom we also sincerely thank: Platinum Sponsors
(100,000 baht) Edna Harrison, Jameson’s Irish Pub and MBMG Group; Gold
Sponsor (50,000 baht) Alice and Texas Rose; and Silver Sponsors (25,000
baht) Garfield, Rowey, Rev, Lowell Adams, Richard Wibrow and Phil Dunn.
We would also like to thank our projects director, Bernie Tuppin, for
keeping a watchful eye on everything to ensure that all was done right.
If you would like to learn more about our projects and how you can help,
please visit our website at www.care4kids.info.
We hope the students and staff at Noenkrapog enjoy their new facilities!
