The Thai Polo and Equestrian Club turned pink for the second
time as international teams came out to compete to raise money and awareness
about breast cancer.
Pink was the theme of the day during the fashion show.
The Feb. 20 “Pink Polo” match, attended by teams from
around the Asia-Pacific region, raised 800,000 baht for the Queen Sirikit
Breast Cancer Center at Chulalongkorn Hospital. The Southeast Asia team took
the Queen’s Cup, defeating Australia 5.5 to 4.
Nantinee Tanner, managing director of cosmetics firm LBG
Co., Ltd. (Thailand) and chairwoman of this year’s tournament, said the
event was aimed at getting Thai women to take the threat of breast cancer
more seriously.
“I hope that this Pink Polo competition will make all
Thai women pay more attention to monitoring and taking care of their
breasts, as well as attract the next generation of women equestrians,”
Tanner said. “Our hope is to create a Thai polo team to compete at the
international level.”
The Pink Polo event was more than just a match, with the
entire clubhouse and booths done up in pink. Besides the main polo
competition there were games, pony trotting, youth horse-riding competition
and a fashion show.
The highlight of the event had guests and celebrities
taking to the field for the traditional divot-stomping to replace the grass
torn up by the polo players.
