Dr. Somchai

Pattaya seminar about SuperSight Surgery.
Dr Iain Corness
Dr. Somchai Trakoolshoke-satian, the ophthalmologist behind
the revolutionary SuperSight Surgery, addressed an interested audience of over
90 participants at a seminar at the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.
Dr. Somchai was a pioneer in the use of ‘focusable’
intra-ocular lenses (IOL’s) and over the past eight years has carried out 3,000
of the procedures, with a success rate approaching 100 percent.
At the seminar, he spoke on the development of the special
lenses and the technique required to select the best candidates for the surgery,
as not all people who wear glasses are suitable for SuperSight Surgery.
Chiwin Chiwarattanaphan, the GM of the Alcon company, the
largest manufacturer of IOL’s in the world, spoke on the development of the
lenses and gave amazing facts such as the thickness of the ‘steps’ in the lenses
being around 0.02 microns, with the thickness of the average human hair being
around 80 microns. This is almost nano-technology.
World-famous magician Howard Posener, who had SuperSight
Surgery three months earlier, also spoke at the seminar, describing his vision
going from 20/200 (unable to even read the top letter on a standard eye chart)
to 20/20 or better. He described this as “real magic”.
Following Howard Posener, the next patient was a very brave
Mrs. Pauline Edwards, a septuagenarian who had the SuperSight Surgery that
morning, and even only a few hours later was able see much better than
previously, and as Dr. Somchai advised, her vision would continue to improve
over the next three months.
Famous researcher Dr. William Van Ewijk was another patient
who had the SuperSight procedure three years previously, and who spoke on how he
would line up again if Dr. Somchai developed anything even better than the
present technology. However, he emphasized that he was very satisfied with his
current vision.
Following a Q&A session, 37 attendees immediately registered
with the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for ‘pre-screening’ to see if they were
suitable candidates for SuperSight Surgery.
