Romeo and Julie production rocks St Andrews

Mr Doug Heron, Drama teacher at St Andrews School

The Drama Department at St Andrews International Green Valley Secondary School recently staged their unique version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Their version was cunningly entitled ‘Romeo and Julie’ and was definitely an improvement on the original.

The balcony scene.

In this version Romeo and Julie meet and fall in love just like the original but there are some comic surprises as well, including men in tights, servants dancing to Abba songs, a man-eating well and a friar who thinks he’s James Brown!

Romeo and Julie had something for everybody from Shakespeare buffs to break dancers - yes, you did read that correctly - and the audience were entertained and enthralled. Students worked hard rehearsing their acting and dancing and the show was fantastic entertainment and a great success.

Lady Capulet telling Julie she must marry Paris.

The grand finale.

Julie as the ‘Dancing Queen’.

Jim Lumsden is the big star in drag.

More than 700,000 baht was raised for HIV/AIDS charities as hundreds turned out for the annual Pattaya Pride Gay Festival.

Jim Lumsden gives Archie Dunlop a cup for his generous donation. During the last 5 years he has donated more than 700,000 baht for HEARTT2000.

Emceed by organizer Jim Lumsden, the event featured entertainment from Philippine singing act El Duo; the Dolly Sisters, break dance troupe Street Boys and more. Lumsden, as usual, camped it up with outlandish music and dance numbers.

Pattaya Pride raises money for the HEARTT2000 program, which donates as much as 250,000 a month to HIV and AIDS groups.

Besides the music, guests also enjoyed games, including “The Biggest Loser,” based on the weight-loss reality television show. Contestants will meet again in July to see who dropped the most kilograms.

The raffle also was a big success with a motorbike and two rings topping the list of prizes. The largest donation came from 88-year-old Archie Dunlop who gave 100,000 baht.
