Thank you city hall

Editor;
The Pollution Solution Group would like to thank Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Deputy Chief Administrator Apichart and Pattaya City Hall for their “immediate” attention, once we notified them, about the dangerous problem of exposed electrical wires on most, if not all, the light poles on Jomtien Beach.

The inspection plates that cover the electrical wires for all the Jomtien Beach have been removed by someone to sell, for food, drugs, whatever. It came to our attention when we saw a dog get electrocuted (died) when it was playing and grabbed the exposed wires (ugly sad site).

All of these exposed hot wires are low enough for young children to unknowingly put their hands on them.

We were going to put duck tape around them until Pattaya City Hall was able to manufacture new protective covers without haste and the quickest response we have ever seen. Pattaya City Hall jumped into action, just a few days after we brought the pictures to City Hall and they were out there repairing the problem with proper protective covers.

When our children’s lives are at stake, Mayor Itthiphol and Khun Apichart jump into action.
We take our hats off to all of you and give you all an A++. Thank you very much.

Walking on the moon

Editor;
Re: Walking on the moon (Heart to Heart with Hillary Friday, 07 September 2012).

With reference to Lester’s letter with regard to Neil Armstrong and fellow astronauts. I have my own opinion to that but that is neither here nor there. What I would like to talk about is the fact they did land in Pattaya! As we all know about the Vietnam War and American G.I.s on R&R in Pattaya it seems very few are aware of the personalities who actually visited here to entertain the troops, apart from the local personalities, nudge nudge wink wink!

At that time we had a very beautiful and undisturbed coral island which turtles regularly visited and laid their eggs on the south side beach and V.I.P. visitors were allowed to go there, stay overnight and gaze upon this wonderful sight! The huts, for the want of a better word, can still be viewed today. These astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins had that pleasure and the evidence can be seen in concrete as there is a walkway between the south and north beaches. Their hand and foot prints are imprinted in concrete, signed and dated by all.

Others such as Bob Hope, Miss World, The Duke of Edinburgh, probably most importantly for Thailand Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the royal family. There is way too many to list. The island is called Koh Sak about 6km from Pattaya; I hope this may interest some people.

No noise control

Editor;
Re: Noise control act needed (Mailbag Friday, 25 May 2012).
I have been complaining about a bar which seems to have no customers (they wanted me to become one) where a man with a high-pitched voice screams every night until 2.40 a.m. The amplification is so great that you can hear him about 1 km away. I saw a noise pollution officer at City Hall in June. He said he would visit the bar and call me afterwards. I went back a week later; he got the notes out and said the same thing. I have sent 14 emails over a 7-week period to the secretary to the mayor of Pattaya, without receiving any response. The staff on the 1337 helpline are always courteous and well-meaning, but they have not been able to help or even get a response from City Hall so far. I am considering moving - preferably out of this city altogether.

Over 60 Thai only

Editor,
I recently contacted TAT and asked why there is a big sign in front of the police station on Malibu Beach, Koh Samet that clearly states in English in capital letters, that any person over the age of 60 years has free passage to the island. When I pointed this out to the police officers collecting the entrance fees after alighting from the ferry, I was told (on more than 1 occasion) that it was for Thai people only. Why then is it in English? How many over 60 tear old Thais can read English?
The reply from TAT is attached.
What do your readers think?
Glenn
Dear Glenn Clements,
Question: My friends and I like to go to Koh Samet, some of us are over 60 years of age. There is a charge to enter the island as it is a National Park, however in front of the Police Station on Malibu Beach there is an official sign in Thai and English which clearly states that any person over the age of 60 years, does not have to pay an entrance fee. When this was pointed out to the police we were told that it only applies to Thai people, even though it is in English. Could you please clarify this? Thank you.
Answer: Dear Mr. / Ms. Clements, Thank you very much for contacting us. As per your inquiry, we would like to inform you that the sign that mention 60 years old person doesn’t have to pay entrance fee is restricted only for Thai citizens. Actually, the price of the 60 years old adults will normally be free for all the tourist attractions but only apply for Thai citizens. Sorry for your inconvenient in this matter. For further inquiry, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely yours, Thailand Tourism. Update: wwwthailandtourismup date.com

Thank you Thai masseuses

Editor;
Re: Thailand breaks mass massage world record (PM Friday, 07 September 2012).

Ten years ago I spent many thousands of dollars seeing chiropractors and physiotherapists in Australia. Then, I went for holiday in Thailand, had a dozen massages and now ten years later never had a problem with my back. Thank you Thailand massagers.

Tree pruning

Dear Editor;
I am fed up with all these letters bemoaning the pruning of the trees on Beach Road. This is Thailand - where all plant-life - be it trees, shrubs, flowers, etc. grow very rapidly and profusely. These trees will very soon sprout again with lovely new foliage and will provide the shade everyone is seeking but in a more controlled manner.
