BANGKOK, Nov 3 — Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) has inspected the readiness along the country’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province border with Myanmar and is considering upgrading the Dan Singkhon border crossing to permanent status.

Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Veera Sriwatanatrakul and Acting NSC Secretary-General Anusit Kunakorn inspected readiness at the Dan Singkhon border pass in Khlong Wan sub-district.

They reviewed the immigration control system, trade, employment and infrastructure as there have been varied plans and attempts to upgrade the temporary Dan Singkhon border pass to permanent status since 2006.

Mr Anusit said that the prime minister assigned him to check the readiness and gather information about border area management to assure that economic development and security could function well with each other and guarantee smooth cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar there.

Pol Col Peerasak Kleepjan, chief of the 14th Border Patrol Police Sub-division at Phra Mongkutklao Camp, said Myanmar had not closed the border pass permanently and that both sides limited the distance of vehicles running into each other’s soil to three kilometers. Border trade and trips across the border there continues as usual, he said.
