BANGKOK, 1 June 2015 – The Secretary-General of the House of Representatives has officially launched a special turtle preservation project to honor HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Charae Panpruang on Sunday chaired the opening of the project at the wildlife sanctuary inside the Bang Pra Reservoir in Chonburi Province.

The project, under the cooperation between the Secretariat of the House of Representatives and the Veterinary Medical Aquatic animal Research Center at Chulalongkorn University, has also been initiated to mark the 60th birthday anniversary of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

At the project launch, 284 freshwater turtles, which had earlier been rescued and nursed, were released back to their natural habitats; 26 others remain under veterinarians’ care.

Mr. Charae said that the project is a merit-making rite which can also help preserve Thailand’s freshwater turtles while restoring the balance of the ecological system of the country.
