Heavy rain warning issued for Northern, Northeastern, and Southern Regions of Thailand

A warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall was issued in parts of Northern, Northeastern, and Western Southern Thailand while Typhoon Yagi, located west of Hanoi, Vietnam, has weakened into a severe tropical storm and is expected to further degrade into a tropical depression and low-pressure system.

BANGKOK, ThailandThe Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Northern, Northeastern, and Western Southern Thailand. Citizens are advised to remain alert for possible flash floods and forest runoff, especially in hilly areas, near water flow paths, and low-lying regions. The department also warns of strong gusty winds due to the moderately strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are experiencing relatively strong winds, with waves reaching 2 to 3 meters, and over 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to be around 1 to 2 meters, with higher waves in stormy areas. All vessels are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions, while small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf are advised to stay ashore until September 8.

In addition, Typhoon Yagi, located west of Hanoi, Vietnam, has weakened into a severe tropical storm and is expected to further degrade into a tropical depression and low-pressure system by September 8. This system will continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the upper Northern and Northeastern regions of Thailand.



Northern Region: Thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain and strong gusts in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phetchabun provinces. Temperatures will range from 23-26°C (low) to 32-35°C (high), with southwest winds at 10-20 km/h.

Northeastern Region: Thunderstorms are forecast for 40% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain and gusty winds in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan provinces. Temperatures will range from 23-26°C (low) to 29-35°C (high), with southwest winds at 15-30 km/h.

Central Region: Thunderstorms in 40% of the area with strong winds, particularly in Uthai Thani, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Ayutthaya provinces. Temperatures will range from 24-26°C (low) to 33-35°C (high), with southwest winds at 10-30 km/h.

Eastern Region: Thunderstorms in 40% of the area with heavy rain and strong winds in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. Temperatures will range from 25-28°C (low) to 31-34°C (high), with southwest winds at 20-40 km/h. Waves will be 2-3 meters, rising to over 3 meters in stormy areas.

Temperatures will range from 23-25°C (low) to 30-32°C (high), with southwest winds at 20-40 km/h. Waves will reach 2-3 meters, rising to over 3 meters in stormy areas.
