  1# Oldest employee reunited with oldest animal:
A very special reunion marked the 75th birthday of an animal sanctuary in Australia.  The park’s oldest employee and its oldest animal were reunited in front of celebrating crowds.  Kevin Mason has worked at the sanctuary for 49 years, while wedge-tailed eagle Jess has been around for 34 years.
  2# Concerns over dwindling tuna stocks:
World Ocean Day was marked on June 8th amid warnings that three species of the most prized tuna are declining at an alarming rate.  And as European fleets begin the Mediterranean fishing season, the World Wildlife Fund predicts that unless catches are dramatically reduced, Atlantic blue fin tuna stocks will collapse within 3 years.

1# Latvia scraps Cold War bunkers:
The former Soviet controlled Latvia has enjoyed independence for nearly two decades.  But the country is littered with a bone-chilling reminder of an era when two superpowers flirted with mutual annihilation.  More than 300 bomb shelters from the Cold War era form a common part of the Latvian landscape.  Now as the economic downturn starts to bite the nation, the Latvian government has decided to scrap the bunkers.
2# Inside an elite school for boys in Tehran:
Alavi is an old and historical educational institute for boys situated in southern Tehran.  Many Iranian officials, political figures and scientists are graduates of this school.  The teachers say their success is down to a mixture of modern education combined with traditional religious beliefs.

1# A modern machine which aims to replicate ancient medical skills:
Chinese medicine has spanned thousands of years and its popularity is spreading across the world, but in China more people are turning to western medicine in the belief that it’s more scientific.  But doctors at Shanghai University’s traditional medicine school are battling against this concept, using state of the art technology to support their traditional practices.  They’re hoping their new invention will help change perceptions about Chinese medicine and push traditional methods into the future.
2# Stray dogs pack the streets of Bangkok
: More than six and a half million people make the bustling Thai capital, Bangkok their home.  But the city is also host to scores of unregistered residents of the four legged kind.  There are some 750 thousand stray dogs in Bangkok according to the NGO Soi Cats and Dogs.  And that number’s on the increase.

A small village in the Southern Indian state of Kerala is emerging as a new favourite for bird watchers.  Every year, thousands of birds gather at a sanctuary in Koonthankulam for nesting.
