BANGKOK, 17 February 2012 -In the wake of recent blasts in Bangkok, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) chief has come out to urge Thailand to stiffen its immigration process.
UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi said that the 3 explosions on Tuesday, which have been reported to many countries and led to the issuing of travel alerts by several governments, are calling for stronger immigration rules and procedures.
Despite probable inconvenience among foreign visitors, Mr. Supachai insisted that stricter screening process will make arriving travelers more confident in Thailand.
He reckoned that domestic political conflict and violence in several countries tend to be easily felt elsewhere nowadays, and that such a scenario is likely on a rising trend.
The UNCTAD Secretary-General noted that all countries must now take security measures more seriously.
On a positive note, Mr. Supachai believes that collaboration among all parties in Thailand will effectively prevent the impact from outside the country.
