Monday, Jan 3, Plutuluang – Stableford

Yet another public holiday and we elected to play at Plutaluang, although several regular members decided to take a day off fearing a long slow day on what can be an extremely busy course on holidays.  In the event the day was excellent, we teed off on time, no 6-balls were sighted, and the round was completed in less than four and a half hours.

Playing the West and North nines presents a difficult task for most golfers, but not today for Roy Dayton who came back to the clubhouse with an incredible score of 45 points to romp away with the honours.  Runner up was Tom Jones with his best ever score in Thailand on 38 points.

Koji Yamada. Koji Yamada.

Near pin winners were Bob Pearce, Daryl White, Tony Berry and Roy Dayton.

1st Roy Dayton (24) 45pts

2nd Tom Jones (23) 38pts

3rd Koji Yamada (16) 34pts

4th Mike Corner (20) 34pts

Wednesday, Jan. 5, Phoenix – Stableford

We returned to Phoenix after a break of three months and found the Lakes & Ocean course to be reasonably quiet and in excellent condition.  Someone usually manages to get a great score on this course, which is perhaps more forgiving than many of the other local ones we play on a regular basis.

Today’s star was Koji Yamada, coming in with an “unbelievable” score of 43 points.  Koji has been playing erratic golf for several weeks, so it must be a great feeling when everything comes back together, just a week before he returns to Japan.  Geoff Cox also returned to form scoring 40 points to take second place in the A Flight ahead of the ever consistent Tony Berry.

Near Pins went to Colin Greig, Paul Edgar, Mashi Kaneta, and Patrick Kelly.

A Flight

1st Koji Yamada (16) 43pts

2nd Geoff Cox (14) 40pts

3rd Tony Berry (11) 38pts

B Flight

1st Tom Breslin (21) 34pts

2nd Nile Sheehan (23) 33pts

3rd Colin Stokes (28) 33pts

Friday, Jan 7,Greenwood – Stableford

A large group of golfers arrived at Greenwood to find some confusion on the tee, and we were requested to allow 4 groups to tee off on our allotted tee time (no answer was forthcoming from the starter when we requested to know what tee time these groups had booked!).  However, after the delayed start the round progressed smoothly, and the course was in its usual good condition, setting the scene for some good scoring.

Dave Ashman produced the best round of the day, carding 42 points and narrowly beating Gordon Melia in the A Flight.  Richard Baldotto beat Bernie Stevens by the same one point margin to win the B Flight.

Near pin winners today were Geoff Hart, Gordon Melia, Paul Edgar and Patrick Kelly.

A Flight

1st Dave Ashman (15) 42pts

2nd Gordon Melia (15) 41pts

3rd Patrick Kelly (2) 38pts

B Flight

1st Richard Baldotto (26) 37pts

2nd Bernie Stevens (19) 36pts

3rd Jack Robertson (25) 35pts
