BANGKOK, 27 February 2012  – The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) will spend two billion baht to help more than 3,000 flood-hit factories and businesses purchase new energy-saving machinery.

DEDE Director-General Krairit Nilkuha said the department had a project to promote efficient energy consumption in flood-affected businesses and industries with a budget of two billion baht. Under the project, the department will subsidize a maximum of one million baht or 30% of each operator’s investment in new power-saving machines and equipment.

The target group includes industrial plants, business buildings and agricultural entrepreneurs suffering from the flood disaster late last year. The department expects that the project will help revive approximately 3,000 facilities and cut energy expense by 2.3 billion baht a year.

Entrepreneurs who wish to participate in the project must have equipment replacement plans that can produce a return on investment within seven years. The project will be officially launched on 12 March.
