Rail traffic resumes after train crash in Surat Thani

SURAT THANI, March 11 – Rail service in Surat Thani has resumed Sunday afternoon after a collision earlier the same morning with a truck left 35 persons hospitalised.

Jane Wongsrida, the train driver, Theerayuth Prempramote, the mechanic, and the truck driver, unidentified, were severely injured.

The operation to clear crashed carriages is expected to be finished by Sunday evening.

The Bangkok-Yala special express train hit a six-wheeled truck at an ungated rail crossing in Phunphin district, injuring over 50 persons. Some of the victims were later discharged from the hospital.
