BANGKOK, 3 April 2012 – The Culture Ministry is prepared to organize the Grand Songkran Festival in a traditional Thai way to preserve the Thai culture.

Culture Minister Sukumol Khunploem has announced that the event is aimed at reminding people of the traditional Songkran Festival, which is Thai New Year. She said the Ministry has been campaigning for the “White Songkran”, in which people are encouraged to go to temples to make merits, pour water onto the elderly to show gratefulness, splash water in a polite way, watch or participate in traditional Thai performances, and don flowery clothes for the occasion.

A water-pouring ceremony will be organized on April 11 at Thailand Cultural Center, allowing people to pour water onto national artists for blessing. And from April 13-15, the traditional Songkran Festival will be held at Siam Square. The event will include traditional Thai performances and music as well as other activities.
