The Royal Varuna Yacht Club was the setting for a fun day on Thursday March 29, for 300 severely handicapped and underprivileged children from Bangkok. Such a high number of kids required seven or eight coaches to set off at around 7 a.m. and travel with their event organizers, the Rotary Club of Bangkok South, the Pakkred Home for Handicapped Children, plus several other institutions who organize a day out at the beach.
The event is called Kid’s Day Out.
Up to 150 Bangkok South members, friends, Rotaract and Interact members, members of other clubs, and students and teachers from the Shrewsbury International School volunteered to help these amazing children enjoy the day.
Kind-hearted young women from Bangkok are eager to help those less fortunate.
Everyone had the opportunity to play on the grass, splash around in the swimming pool, supervised by Adrian Tophan, and swim in the ocean which was for some the first time in their young lives to feel the warm waters of the Gulf.
Thank you for such a delicious treat.
One lady volunteer must have spent the whole day in the swimming pool sharing the fun and laughter with such appreciative kids. One young boy was so excited to be handed a soft ball to repeatedly throw to a friend in the pool, the smile never left his face. Others took part in assisting a group of adventurous thrill seeking youngsters onto the sand and surf on the beach. Back in the terrace, midday was time for an enormous buffet with entertainment of singing, dancing, & clapping hands.
Setting off for the bus ride home around 3 p.m., the special children took away ideas that they can participate in activities that most of us take for granted. The care givers took away the warm feeling of being able to interact and do something positive for these underprivileged children.
Lunch time is certainly busy, and lots of fun for everyone.
Helping a young blind woman experience the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand for the very first time.
The smiles say it all!
Plenty of toys and prizes were on offer.

We can all fit on this raft…
… Maybe not!
It was a day everyone will remember forever.
Woo hoo!
