BANGKOK, 11 April 2012  – The Labor Ministry is offering free vehicle checkups for motorists who plan to travel during the Songkran period.

The Labor Ministry has cooperated with the Department of Skill Development to help reduce road accidents during the ‘7 Dangerous Days’. The Ministry has assigned its officials, training instructors at all provincial skilled labor development offices to offer vehicle checkups during the Songkran holidays during April 11-17.

Labor Minister Phadermchai Sasomsab said that the Thai New Year’s Day is a very important holiday during which people usually go back to their hometowns to meet their relatives and take this opportunity to travel. According to the Minister, the massive traveling has in the past several years led to road accidents causing a number of injuries and deaths; many cases stemmed from ill-equipped or poorly maintained vehicles.
