BANGKOK, April 15 – Thais prefer Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra tackle the rising cost of living as their new year’s present rather than national reconciliation, according to a survey released on Sunday.
The Abac Poll was conducted from a random sampling by Assumption University’s ABAC Poll Research Centre between April 1-14 among 2,158 respondents aged over 18 in 17 provinces, including the capital Bangkok.
A plurality of 39.9 per cent of those polled said they wanted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to solve the soaring cost of living as their new year’s present while 20 per cent of those polled preferred national reconciliation. Additionally, 13.2 per cent urged the premier to eradicate corruption, followed by 6.9 per cent who wanted drugs and crime suppression as a new year gift.
Regarding what the people wanted from the opposition camp, 33.8 per cent of those polled said the opposition should stop bickering and join forces with the government to tackle people’s sufferings, while 29.1 per cent preferred the building of national reconciliation and unity. However, 26.7 per cent of the respondents urged the opposition to leave the Yingluck Shinawatra administration in peace and allow it time to run the country.
