PM to lead Thai private sector to China

BANGKOK, 16 April 2012  – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will lead the Thai private sector to the People’s Republic of China on her four-day official trip to the East Asian country, with the objective of enhancing bilateral and economic cooperation. 

Accompanied by representatives from both the public and private sectors, the Thai Premier is scheduled to visit China during 17-20 April in response to an invitation extended by her Chinese counterpart, Mr. Wen Jiabao. The PM said that apart from further tightening the longstanding ties between Thailand and China, the trip will also allow both countries to review and expand existing mutual cooperation in various fields.

Given that China is a key economic partner with and a major market of Thailand, the visit will give Thailand a chance to explore new economic paths and opportunities in trade and investment. On this occasion, representatives from the Thai private sector will also have an opportunity to meet and negotiate with leading Chinese investors.

Strategic cooperation will also be enhanced, especially in promoting mutual cooperation in line with the planned development of various projects such as high speed rail system, water management system, renewable energy, human resources, education and culture, as well as other regional cooperation, including ASEAN and the Greater Mekong Sub-region.

Additionally, the PM will witness the signing of agreements between the Thai and Chinese governments, including the Thailand-China Strategic Cooperation for 2012-2016, the Agreement on Expanding and Deepening Bilateral Economic and Trade Cooperation, the Agreement on Educational Cooperation, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Agricultural Trade Cooperation between the Thai-Chinese Commerce Ministries, as well as the development of rail, water management and flood prevention, among others. )
