BANGKOK, 12 May 2012 – In a latest show of hostility to corruption, the government has approved new measures aimed at eliminating corrupt practices by state officials.
At a special meeting yesterday, Justice Minister Pracha Promnog, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Nivatthamrong Boonsongpaisal and other related officials announced seven measures intended to end malpractice by government officials.
The measures will translate into several campaigns aimed at encouraging people’s participation in the fight against corruption, and creating a watchdog in every community and a scrutiny body to follow up complaints.
The campaigns are also expected to lead to a study into different forms of malfeasance by government agencies, improvement in the operation of government agencies to ensure transparency, protection of foreign investors and entrepreneurs against corruption and more effective management of budgets to prevent misuse of money by those in charge of government projects.
PM Yingluck Shinawatra will chair a meeting on May 18 during which she plans to discuss the measures and assign anti-corruption strategies to agencies concerned.
