YEOSU, 14 May 2012 – The Thailand Pavilion has attracted the attention of locals and tourists who are visiting the International Exposition Yeosu Korea 2012, while aiming to become one of the exposition’s top five pavilions.
Held in Yeosu, South Korea, this year’s World Expo is centered around the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast”. The world-class exposition is participated by 106 nations and 10 international organizations, which have gathered to exhibit advanced technologies and ideas on marine and coastal resources management. So far, the Expo 2012, Yeosu has welcomed a large number of both local and foreign visitors. The host country is expecting that the three-month global event will draw in 8 million visitors.
The Thai Pavilion at the Expo 2012, Yeosu portrays the stories of the Thai seas with graceful designs of foamy waves and the Thai culture. Three leading characters from Thailand’s epic literature, Phra Aphaimani, including Sutsakorn, the Dragon-horse and the Mermaid, serve as the pavilion’s hosts to take visitors on journeys through spectacular seascapes which showcase the richness and beauty of Thailand’s seas.
Ranked by the South Korean press as one of the must-visit pavilions, the Thailand Pavilion at the Expo 2012, Yeosu has been attracting many visitors. With such positive reception, the Thai Pavilion aims to become one of the top five most visited pavilions in the Expo 2012 Yeosu. Other pavilions which are stirring the interest of the expo’s visitors are those from South Korea, China, Italy, USA and Germany.
The Expo 2012, Yeosu is held on 25 hectares of land in South Korea’s ocean resort and tourist city of Yeosu and is open to the public during 12 May – 12 August 2012. The official mascots of the exposition are “Yeony”, a small blue plankton, representing the abundant sea, and Suny, an orange plankton, symbolizing the living creatures in the marine and coastal ecosystems.
The next World Expo is scheduled to be held in Milan, Italy, in 2015. Meanwhile, Thailand is currently bidding to become host of the world-class exposition in 2020.
