THAI appoints Priewpan, Areepong vice chairmen of audit committee

BANGKOK, 24 May 2012  – The Thai Airways International (THAI) has named National Police Chief Priewpan Damapong and Permanent Secretary for Finance Areepong Bhoocha-oom as vice chairmen of its audit committee. 

THAI has informed the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) that the board of directors has agreed to appoint Mr Priewpan and Areepong as vice chairmen of the audit committee, effective from May 21st.

The Board also informed the SET of the termination of former THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand’s employment contract, taking effect on June 21st onwards.

It also reported that the company had also appointed Chokchai Panyayong, executive vice president for strategies and business development, as acting president, effective on May 21.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has requested the Transport Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan to explain to the THAI labor union the reasons behind the removal of Mr Piyasvasti.

On Wednesday, the labor union submitted a letter asking THAI Board Chairman Ampon Kittiampon to clarify how Mr Piyasvasti failed to communicate with the board as claimed by the panel as the reason for the dismissal of the former Thai boss, saying the reason was unclear.
