BANGKOK, 30 May 2012  – The Thai tourism authority is set to speedily expand travel target groups ahead of the liberalization of ASEAN in 3 years’ time.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Deputy Governor Juthaporn Rerngronasa said on Tuesday that the TAT will hold its annual travel promotion event, titled “Thailand Travel Mart +2012” or TTM+ at Impact Muang Thong Thani Exhibition Hall 5-6 during June 6th and 8th.

The event, which is in its 13th year, is conceived under the collaboration between the TAT and all travel-related business operators and organizations, such as the Tourism Council of Thailand, the Association of Thai Travel Agents and the Thai Hotel Association.

Mrs. Juthaporn added that the TTM+ will be an opportunity for the Thai private sector to meet buyers and sellers and for SME operators to take part in promoting their businesses.

According to the TAT, around 418 buyers from 52 countries will attend this year’s event, alongside 380 sellers.

Moreover, the TAT has invited 101 members of the press from international news agencies to get the latest updates on Thai tourism industry.

Mrs. Juthaporn went on to say that the TTM+ has been intended to help the TAT upgrade and expand tourists in 4 main groups, including Golf, Wedding and Honeymoon, Ecotourism, and Health and Wellness, through the “Thailand & Beyond” strategy to prompt Thailand for the business liberalization under the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

She summed up that the TAT has earmarked a budget of 20 million baht to organize the event.
