BANGKOK, 7 June 2012  – The annual travel promotion extravaganza has been officially opened by the prime minister.

PM Yingluck Shinawatra, on Wednesday, chaired the official opening of Thailand Tourism Festival 2012 at Challenger Hall, IMPACT Exhibition Center, Muang Thong Thani.

The PM commented that, in addition to the promotion of Thailand’s major money-making industry, this year’s event is intended to commemorate the auspicious celebration of HM the King’s 84th birthday anniversary, HM the Queen’s 80th birthday anniversary and HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday anniversary.

For the travel industry, the fair is hoped to help boost confidence in Thailand after it has survived the worst flood crisis it has seen in decades in 2011 while promoting various travel wonders and beauties of Thailand to the world.

The prime minister asserted that the government has recognized the importance of the travel industry, which has continued to generate a huge stream of income for the country.

She added that the government has also raised the projected annual tourism revenue from 700 billion baht to 2 trillion baht while considering infrastructural and transport improvement plans to help the industry handle the intra-regional connection when the ASEAN Economic Community comes into effect in 2015.
