BANGKOK, 7 June 2012 – Truck operators have announced that they will reduce transportation fee by 5% if diesel price drops to 30 baht/litre for a period of 15-30 consecutive days, while expecting the move to contribute to lower product prices.
The Land Transport Federation of Thailand (LTFT) has given the green light for its members, comprising around 1 million trucks nationwide, to adjust transportation fee down by 5%, or around 25 satang per kilometre, on the condition that diesel price drops to 30 baht/litre and is maintained at this rate for a period of 15-30 consecutive days.
With the fee reduction, manufacturers will be paying less expense on goods transportation. Thus, the LTFT hopes its decision will contribute to a drop in the price of consumer products as a way to alleviate the people’s burden brought on by the high cost of living.
