5 hurt in 6-car Sattahip pileup

Five people, including three kindergarteners, were hurt when a speeding pickup overturned, causing a six-car pileup in Sattahip.

The three young students were rushed to Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center following the May 16 crash at kilometer marker 169 on Sukhumvit Road. Constriction workers Narakhon Watkeng, 33, and the passenger in his Isuzu pickup truck also were hurt and taken to the hospital by a witness to the wreck.

The chain-reaction crash occurred when Narakhon accelerated to try to overtake other cars and lost control of his truck and overturned.

A Toyota driven Natchaporn Pornchai, 40, smashed into the flipped pickup and another pickup truck, Mercedes-Benz, Isuzu compact and another Isuzu truck collided one-by-one.

Police said all the cars were traveling too close to each other to be able to stop in time.
