The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar

Visakha Buddha Day, 4th June, so the Pattaya Golf Society visited Rayong C.C. with a baker’s dozen of golfers for another session of public holiday golf, on a course almost empty by comparison with other local courses.  As usual a competition local rule was applied because of the peculiar nature of the track, with its bare patches, and the group got away well before time.

Scoring was difficult with hard fairways and slowish greens but Brian Shaw, Mr Len and the “Rabbi” performed better than most with 35 points each for a share of second place.  One point ahead was Aussie Lindsay Phillips who took his maiden win with the group on 36 points.

Brian Shaw recorded the only birdie ‘2’ of the day on the 16th hole and the Booby Bevy and free beer draw was cancelled in deference to the solemnity of the day and the vigilance of the “Boys in Brown”.

Superb Seil

On Friday, 8th June the Pattaya Golf Society visited Pattana to play a stableford competition on the B and C nines which were in perfect condition with lush fairways and splendidly consistent greens.  It was certainly the best conditioned course the group has played in months and the fee was remarkable value for money when other local courses, in poorer condition, are charging ransoms for groups with unachievable numbers.

Some very good golf was played and Tony Thorne turned in a score of 34 points for third place.  Dave Wilkinson conjured up a rare sub-par round of 37 for second place but the day belonged to Seil Revels who produced a round of stunning quality with his card bearing only two bogeys against four birdies and a dozen pars.  Gross seventy (forty four points) is a remarkable achievement and represents the best round with the group in more than a year.

Incredibly there were no birdie ‘2’s.

In the opinion of all the golfers it had been an excellent day at Pattana and the PGS looks forward to repeating the trip next month and during the rest of low season.
