The Immigration Bureau is investigating a claim filed in Pattaya that three Thai women were sold into prostitution in Bahrain and are being held against their will.

Pol. Inspector Prasert Chaiwong, deputy chief inspector at the Chonburi Immigration Office, said an unnamed foreign man filed a complaint that three Thai women had contacted him, saying they were being held in the Middle Eastern country. Their passports were confiscated and they were threatened with violence if they try to leave, the petition stated.

The foreigner and a Thai woman friend were referred to the Human Trafficking Suppression Division where they provided the details they had about the women from Udon Thani, Nonthaburi and Chantaburi provinces. The women said they were paid 300,000 baht in advance before traveling to Bahrain, but are now treated like sex slaves.

Immigration authorities said they have contacted Bahraini officials to investigate the story.
