PSC Golf from the Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, May 23, Phoenix – Stableford

Phoenix Mountain and the new Lakes were played as the Ocean is still under construction, and coming on well. The course is in great condition and the greens were not as slippery as they have been over the last couple of months, I suppose because of the rainfall the course has had.

Out of 13 players there was only one card under 30 points, which sort of says it all. It was a count back for second place between Kevin Wild and John Anderson with both scoring 38 points each but John had the better back nine to relegate Kevin into third. Coming in with his best round since taking up golf was the day’s organizer George Barrie with a fantastic 42 points off his 22 handicap. That equates to 89 off the stick and is a great round of golf here at the Phoenix.
There was only one ‘2’, coming from John Anderson.

Wednesday, May 25, Green Valley – Medal

The monthly medal proudly sponsored by Brian Chapman of Haven Consultants is becoming a hugely popular event, with the girls taking part in their own event and their own trophy. Three groups of ladies played today and the colourful photos taken on the first tee always finish up on facebook prior to teeing off.

The golf course has a professional tournament coming up and the boards were being erected around the course for the sponsors; they have even got a stand behind the 14th green, normally the main stand is behind the 18th but maybe that is a mistake as the 18th is over by the first tee! The course is in good condition now with the rain we have had and it doesn’t take long to come back to being green and all the dry spots disappear.

Coming third in the ladies division today was Duranee Tawatcharee (Da) with a net 73 while second place went to Tewin Lamthong with a fine net 69. Taking line honours though was the lovely Sumalee Wild with an even finer net 67.

Taking fourth spot in the men’s division was Auke with a net 71 while third went to George Barrie with a net 70, he and Kevin Wild got bragging rights over Sel and John Player in their private challenge. Second place on the day went to Geoff King with a net 69, just being beaten on count back by Freddy Starbeck, the Haven Consultants winner of the month for May.
There were two ‘2’s, coming from Jeff North and Auke.

Friday, May 27, Burapha – Scramble

Burapha was our venue for the monthly scramble today as the Plutaluang courses were both closed for a rather large tournament. Playing A and B loops it turned out to be a great day out for some. Nine groups played and apart from a couple of holes where you got out of the breeze it was not too hot at all. The course was in great condition with fast greens as you always get here and no bad lies.

There were some really good scores and coming in third place was the team of Vince Smyth, Rick Cully, Graham Beaumont and their Capt Ramsay Smith with a net score of 58.3. Second place went to the quartet of Nat Rukkid, Wan Bainbridge, Dick Bainbridge and Paul Hack with a score of 57.6, just being narrowly edged out by the team of Paul Greenaway, Gary Ritchie, Brian Maddox and Bob Philp with a score of 57.5. A bell ring from the winners followed the announcement.

Coming up this month, more precisely June 21st is the Billabongs second annual charity day for Special Needs Children. All monies raised go to the kids in the way of furniture, bedding, desks etc. There will be free Bloody Marys at the Billabong prior to golf which is a shotgun start at 11.30 at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club. The field will be limited to 144 players so if you are interested please give Bob a call on 082 204 3411. Hole sponsorship starts at 2,000 baht.
