BANGKOK, 17 June 2012 – The Commerce Ministry has reaffirmed that the government’s export growth target for this year will be achieved as planned.
Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said that the Ministry has recently made an assessment of the export outlook for the rest of 2012, after having met with representatives from all key industries, and it is convinced that the export growth target will end up at 15 percent as targeted.
Mr. Boonsong stated that the confidence in achieving such a growth rate has taken into consideration the debt crisis in the Euro zone and the sluggish economic condition in the US.
The affirmation was also agreed in spite of the earlier estimates by the National Economic and Social Development Board and the Bank of Thailand, which pegged this year’s export growth at 8-9 percent.
The Commerce Minister added that export-related business operators have, however, urged the government to come up with more supportive and lenient measures to facilitate trade.
Accordingly, he expects new stimulus measures will be agreed upon during the upcoming meeting between the Prime Minister and related entrepreneurs as well as related agencies on June 29th.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Phuangrach said that the Ministry has continued to introduce all possible measures to help exporters, who have faced with several problems, to hit this year’s target.
He now asks for cooperation from all concerned parties to work harder, especially when non-major markets like China, India, Russia and many other markets still have high potential for growth.
