Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay inspected Wong Amat Beach for erosion following complaints about damage to the beach’s footpath.
Pavement and bricks sustained heavy damage from recent storms and a 100-meter-long foundation wall that supports the footpath was broken as well when the mayor and city workers arrived June 3.
Verawat said engineers already have been making plans for repairs. But they must submit their proposal to the city council and request the 14.7-million-baht budget.
Under the plan, a new, stronger foundation will be constructed and more sand will be used under the pavement and bricks. It is expected to last for many years, he said.
He said the work is urgent because erosion continues.
