Monday, May 30, Pattavia – Stableford

We arrived thirty minutes ahead of schedule but there were three groups in front on the first tee, so we moved over to the 10th and it was a right decision as we finished one hour ahead of the group going off the first. We were lucky with the weather today and only suffered a 10 minute sprinkling of rain but it was enjoyable, especially with the quick and tricky greens and the course in good condition.

Friday, June 3, Eastern Star – Stableford

Heavy overnight rain here in Pattaya but there were no cancellations in the morning and our mini bus departed on time from Fraser’s Bar. The rain was horrendous on the way to the course but as we left the 331 it totally dried up.

There had been no rain on the course overnight or this morning but as the first group of five teed off it looked very threatening coming in from Rayong. Our first group got halfway down the second fairway when the skies opened so the players took shelter undercover by the third tee for 10 minutes until the rain had passed. There was no more rain for the rest of the round, and ‘pick clean and place’ was not implemented today at all.

The organizer Glyn Evans played his best round for some considerable time and won division 2 with 40 points. There were two 32’s vying in for second place but Tony Thorne beat Darryl Blair 2/1 on a last hole count back.

Jerry Sweetnam with 35 points was the winner in division 1, with Paul Butler taking second one point behind and Bill Bertram was third on 33.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Mikael Andersson, Tony Bless, Khalifa Nasser and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Glyn Evans.

Khalifa Nasser on the 6th and Lindsay Phillips on the 17th recorded birdie ‘2’s to split the division 1 pot and Glyn Evans slotted the only one in division 2 on the 17th from two feet away.
