Sunday, May 29, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Geoff Bracegirdle (16) 40pts
2nd Paul Danielz (12) 39pts
3rd Christen Boysen (9) 38pts

We arrived at Silky Oak today to be faced with a long queue at the counter and by the time we got over to Silky Oak we were 30 minutes late for our tee time, but this meant we had a clear field in front of us and our first group flew around in just 3 hours.
Geoff Bracegirdle performed best on this challenging layout to return 40 points for the win. A point behind in second was Paul Danielz who in turn was one ahead of Christen Boysen.

Monday, May 30, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Alistar Gall (16) 39pts
2nd Frank Donnelly (23) 32pts
3rd Barry Oat’s (23) 30pts

A big storm had soaked the course at Khao Kheow so we elected to play ‘lift clean and cheat’ today. We had 13 players so went out in three 3-balls and one 4-ball.

The wet course did not seem to affect Alistar Gall who blobbed the first but then got his game together and came in with a fine 39 points to take the top spot. The rest of the group did not fare as well with Frank Donnelly coming in second 7 points behind Alistar and Barry Oats taking third place with 30.
Ian Pickles claimed both the long putts and the near pin.

Wednesday, June 1, Burapha A & B – Phantom Cup

A Flight (0-17)
1st Dave Nicholson (17) 42pts
2nd Bob Maluga (16) 42pts
3rd Steve Truelove (7) 41pts
B flight (18+)
1st Torben Lindgaard (27) 41pts
2nd Peter Sorensen (25) 40pts
3rd Colin Davis (18) 39pts
4th Niel Smith (36) 37pts

40 brave souls waited to tee off at Burapha golf course and the first group got soaked while the rest of us were sheltering in the road tunnel. The shower was short lived and all the rest of the groups were able to keep dry (apart from some wet shoes).

The condition of the course was excellent and all the golfers played off the white tees, which surprisingly produced only nine scores beating handicaps. We had 2 flights with 3 places in A flight and 4 in B flight and all the holes had prizes on them with vouchers from various bars and restaurants to the value of 500 baht each, with a special on the 18th of nearest to the keg for a barrel of beer at Touch A Go-Go in Soi L K Metro. You will see all the lads there thanks to Mogens Melander who won it, and a special thanks to Angus Macdonald who sponsored the hole.

Niel (the lucky one) Smith came in fourth place in B flight with 37 points, trumped by the Donkey on 39 points and Peter Soresen with 40. But top dog on the day was Torben Lindgaard with 41 points and the bragging rights for a few days at least.

In A flight we not surprisingly had some very good scores, with Dave Nicholson 42 points giving him the win on count back over Bob Maluga. Steve Truelove came third just one point back.
Back at the Phantom Bar everyone tucked into usual fantastic food supplied by Colin’s Restaurant.
The next Phantom Cup will be held at Siam Old Course on the 7th of July. Green fee, caddy & cart priced at 2,900 baht. Contact Colin on 089 826 0764 or Christen on 089 047 0090 for details.

Friday, June 3, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Barry Oats (23) 40pts
2nd New Satita (29) 39pts
3rd Ken Aihara (7) 36pts

We left Soi Buakhao with rain coming down cats and dogs but as soon as we got a few miles down the motorway sure enough the rain stopped and the sky started to lighten, so when we arrived at the course everything was looking good for our 14 players.

This is one of Barry Oat’s favourite courses (don’t know what he likes most – the course or the caddies) and he was unbeatable off the silver tees today with 40 points. New Satita came on second on 39 points and the last place on the podium went to Ken Aihara with an even par 36.
Colin Davis & Ken Aihara picked up the near pin prizes and Ken also netted the longest putt award.
