Tuesday, May 31, Bangpakong Riverside– Stableford
Sometimes this playing golf is just like going on your holidays for the day and getting away from it all. On this day we all packed our golf bags and our little travel kits with our change of clothes in and away we went. It is a bit like going to ‘the seaside’ on a day like this and we even get to go over the wide river as we get close.
The course here at Bangpakong is on one of the bends on the river and there is always a coolness about the place. It had obviously recently been raining as the course was quite wet but we were off on time and the weather was very nice, with just the occasional spot of rain as we went around. It was nice to actually hit your ball off green grass, and wet at that.
This is a fine golf course and well worth a visit, especially at the present rates. While it is a fair drive, most of it is along motorways and it is relatively easy to get to and back again. The Clubhouse is very nice and food and drink are at reasonable prices. The course is one of the easier ones and you can score well here and go home having had a great day and thinking you have discovered the secret of this game.
The scores on this day were really superb, and if you did not get 40 points you did not get mentioned. The winner was Walter Baechli with 43 points, 26 on the back nine, before a count back on 40 points saw Landis Brooks in second, Bob Britton in third and Takeshi Hakozaki in fourth. We then had many golfers on 35 to 39 points so all had a great day.
This was also the day of The BJ Golfer of the Month award and the winner was John Davis. Well done John!
Friday, June 03, 2016, Greenwood CC – Stableford
Despite being the slow part of the slow season, 22 golfers showed up under threatening skies for the trip to Greenwood and arriving at the course we were assigned the A & B links. Greenwood is indeed green, and at this time of year that is impressive. They are also running a special now of 1050 baht including cart. What’s not to like? The only issue is this day carts were restricted to paths only, and for many golfers and all caddies that means more walking than, well, walking. Keep that in mind.
Just as the first few groups were on their way the rain came in, and back they came! There was about a 45-minute delay, but the rest of the day was cloudy and cooler than lately. Lift & clean was invoked, but not often needed as the course drains pretty well. Greenwood is a scoring course, and despite some soggy areas many golfers took advantage.
In A-Flight and playing spectacular golf, Tommy Marshall shot an impressive 41 points off his 8 handicap to take the win. Just behind came frequent winner Landis Brooks (10) with 40-points and newcomer Peter Hynard (13) finished third with 35.
In B-Flight it was a battle of 38 pointers! When all was sorted, Kenny Chung (27) took count back honors over Dave Nicholson (19) and Brian Gabe (20).
Near pins went to Tommy Marshall, Barry Elphick, Alan Sullivan and Dave Nicholson.
