The Rayong Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center gave aquatic animals to Pattaya City Hall as part of its campaign for World Environment Day on June 5.
Jaroen Reunghataidhamma, director of the Rayong department, presented 10,000 silver perches and spotted Babylon fish to Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn for use by the Environment Department June 3.
Some 400 government officials, teachers, students and staffers from the Dusit Thani Hotel and Long Beach Garden and Resort then released the fish at Jomtien Beach.
The Environment Department participated in Thailand’s national campaign, “Zero Tolerance for illegal Wildlife Trade” as part of this year’s ecological commemoration. The hope was to raise awareness about the buying, selling and killing of protected species.
Wutisak said the city is also doing its part for the environment by rehabilitating Pattaya and Jomtien beaches.
