Phoenix Tuesday/Friday Golf Group

As the photo shows, a few old faces returned to ‘fun city’ to make our group a little busier today on Tuesday, June 12.

I have been saying for a couple of weeks now how well the course at Phoenix is being maintained and yet again I have to say it is getting better each week.  The greens are now getting up to speed at about 10 on the stint which, along with the difficult slopes and burrows, makes these greens possibly some of the most difficult in the area.

Tuesday’s top four pose with staff members at The Relax Bar. Tuesday’s top four pose with staff members at The Relax Bar.

Also it is a nice time of the year; drier (not so humid) hot weather with strong winds makes it even a pleasure to walk (for some of the course anyway).

So, onto the match today and the best score in to claim the KPK Food Services cap was from your scribe (Mike Gerrard) with 34 points, followed closely by five other players scoring 33 points.  After sorting out the count backs it ended up with Richard Baldwin claiming second place with Colin Gregg and Peter Wathall joint third.  Richard lost the chance to win the day when he hit a par three hole to 5 feet only to three putt from that distance.  However that did not stop him claiming the near pin prize for that hole.

Other near pins went to Barry Copestake & John Bartley, with the other one going to the lucky draw because no one hit the green in one.

Lucky draw prizes, as usual donated by The Relax Bar, went to Stuart Gordon, Giorgio Baccioli, Joris Goetschalkx, Bob Neylon & Herbie Schwieterman.

For anyone who has signed up for the PSC monthly tournament on the 22nd June (at Phoenix) you will not be disappointed with the course conditions.  However you may be a little frustrated with the tricky greens.  If you have not signed up yet I recommend you do!

We play at 11.28 am every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday with varying styles of competition.  If anyone would like to join in the fun please call me on 087 091 7565.
