With the rainy season kicking in, Pattaya has so much water, it actually can send about 30,000 cu. meters a day to help out thirsty residents of Laem Chabang, water authorities told city business leaders.

Suthat Nuchpan, director of the Provincial Waterworks Authority’s Pattaya office, said Pattaya has enough water to last the year and support Laem Chabang with 30,000 cubic meters a day.
Suthat Nuchpan, director of the Provincial Waterworks Authority’s Pattaya office, said Pattaya has enough water to last the year and support Laem Chabang with 30,000 cubic meters a day.

Speaking at the June 9 Pattaya Business & Tourism Association meeting at the Grand Sole Hotel, Phusit Poromet of the Chonburi Irrigation Department, said Pattaya has about 54 million cu. meters of water resources at its disposal.

While the aftermath of Thailand’s critical drought has left some area reservoirs at less than 20 percent of overall capacity, there is still plenty to last through October even if it doesn’t rain another drop before then.

Suthat Nuchpan, director of Provincial Waterworks Authority’s Pattaya office, said the city draws on five different reservoirs and even has a sixth on standby if needed.

While those reservoirs, in total, have only 12 million of a possible 40 million cu. meters of water, there it’s more than Pattaya needs, he said.

As such, the city could spare 30,000 cu. meters of water a day to send to Laem Chabang, where the demands of industry and lingering drought has badly strained water supplies, Suthat added.
