PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, June 6, Plutaluang – Stableford

Eighteen golfers had made it their mission to take on the Navy course and at Bt. 1,000 for green fee, cart and caddie it was well worth the journey.  Plutaluang can be daunting to some but personally I find it a challenging course, in particular North & West and that is what we played off the yellow tees.

Today was a day that we did not get one complaint regarding the course and credit goes to the staff and management for the great job that they have done and the foresight to make it affordable.

Ian ‘Buzzer’ Parry set the field alight with a fantastic 44 points, talk about saving the best till last!  Coming in second was Denis Steele ahead of Martin Todd, Sal Brizzi and Bernie McCart.

Thursday, June 9, Crystal Bay – Stableford

A decent sized field of 20 golfers travelled to Crystal Bay Golf Course, which was in quite good nick but playing off the white tees made the course a little more challenging than our previous visit.  We played C and B nines in that order with grainy greens on C opposed to fast greens on B.  The conditions were excellent for golf with minimal wind to blame for errant shot making.

A Grade was a tight affair with only one point separating the first three places.  Graham Rice was the victor by way of a count back from Stu “Casa” Rifkin, both having 36 points.  Third place was filled by Gerry Arthur on 35 points.

B Grade saw another victory to Geri Crilly who scored a solid 38 points, which was a good effort given he was returning from a week’s rest due to a back injury sustained in his room… l will leave it at that!  His score was helped immensely from two birdies in the round.  As a footnote, he also was very happy to get some bonus baht off his wee mate Jockey.  Second place was filled by Sandy Leiper with 36 points in his first game for about 2 months.  The Viper, Mark Stapleton was happy to acquire third placing with 32 points.
