The well connected also never had to serve in the active military due to college deferments, or having daddy speak to the local draft board as in G.W. Bush’s or Cheney’s case. 76% of those who served in Vietnam were from “Low and lower middle” income families.
How many members of congress had children who served in the Iraq war? It was one! Rich kids have a lot more options.
The United States has had an all-volunteer army for 43 years and I am proud of those who choose to serve.
