Right about this time of year, you may see vehicles cruising down the highway with a bouquet of flowers fixed to their grill. This sight is a good indication that Chinese New Year is upon us.
Many people worship their favorite deity at home or in their local temple by offering food and flowers. When the ceremonies are finished, these are then distributed to the folks to take home with them.
The traditional Thai-Chinese belief is that these flowers are sacred, and if kept at home or in one’s vehicle, they will bring good luck and safety to their families at home, on the road, and bless their businesses to do well in the year to come.
As with many other “traditions”, this has caught on with non-Chinese Thais as well.
