Inmates from the Pattaya Remand Prison were drafted to help Pattaya environmental staffers clean out the Nok Yang Canal to improve flood drainage and preserve mangrove forests.

Five convicts, all deemed to have good behavior, joined the city workers at the Naklua canal June 27 following public complaints about trash and plants clogging up the khlong and the leftover garbage smelled after the water was gone.

The crew cleared the entire canal of trash from end-to-end, something made possible due to a break in the rain, allowing workers to trudge through a water-free klong.
