Travellers Rest Golf Group
After the sad news in last week’s report I am more than happy to redress the balance this week and tell you all about an old stalwart at the TRGG who on Friday 8th July celebrated his 75th birthday in fine style back at our base in Soi Lengkee. Seamus Farrell admitted to me that if it hadn’t been for a long association with wine, women and song he would never had made it to his venerable old age and he hopes to be having many more birthdays before he is done. I managed to get a picture of him and his daughter Avril enjoying his party.
The weather improved this week in so far as the rain did not affect any of the golf but boy was it steaming hot most days, sauna conditions prevailed every day and most of the golfers departed the courses looking a little bedraggled.
Monday, July 4, Pattana – Stableford
On Monday at Pattana (B and C courses), it was that wily old Aussie Ted Senior who stole the headlines on American Independence Day. For the second Monday in a row Ted made it in to the top three, on this occasion finishing top of the pile. Scotsman, Ian Bell finished in second place just a point behind and Anthony Atherton took third spot.

Tuesday, July 5, Burapha – Stableford
It was a case of three men and their dogs went to play a meadow on Tuesday. The meadow in question was at Burapha (A and B courses) and guess what, all of them finished in the top three (men that is not the dogs).
The TRGG prides itself in keeping the customers satisfied and even if there are only three people wanting to play on any given day the TRGG makes sure it happens. Anthony Atherton jumped from his previous days third place into the leaders green jacket. His 39 points was far too good for the other two and it seems a little tough to lose a shot off your handicap when you only had two other people to beat. Ged Blairs came in second and Billy Allan finished third and last.

Wednesday, July 6, The Emerald – Stableford
On Wednesday it was off to Emerald and the best turnout of the week set about the course with a vengeance. Big Mike Smith blasted round and tore it apart with an amazing 42 points to take first place. Jack Mooney, who if he could putt would have finished with 50 points but had to settle for 39 on the day, came second. Tewin Poopay Lamthong held up the women’s cause by finishing in third place

Thursday, July 7, Green Valley – Stableford
The TRGG made its weekly visit to Green Valley on Thursday and it was another lady Rungratree Cox who took the baton from Poopay and further upheld the ladies’ honour by winning the day. Her 35 points was just too much for Ito Akitoshi who was representing the Japanese flag and finished second and Ged Blairs, who was playing for the Stoke City cause and finished in third place, which is far higher than where Stoke City normally finish.

Friday, July 8, Pattavia – Stableford
On Friday the golfing week drew to a close at Pattavia Century.
Now every time I bump into John Baxter I hear him moaning about his handicap and how he can’t possibly play to 16, 17, 18 or whatever it is at the time. Well John, after your 42 points at Pattavia let’s see how you manage to play off a 15 handicap. You will be just fine I suspect, but I expect we shall never hear the last of it.
