PSC Golf from Colin’s Bar

Sunday, July 10, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Aki Yamamoto (22) 40pts

2nd Mogen’s Melander (25) 37 pts

3rd Rusty Barfield (5) 36pts

With a van load away on a trip to Kanchanaburi and western Thailand and the scribe still suffering, it left just 9 players for Green Valley today.

Aki Yamamoto was on his last game with us before returning to the land of the rising sun but it turned out to be his day as he took the win with a sparkiling round of 40 points – 20 points front and back.  Playing partner Mogens Melander tried to keep up with Aki but eventually had to be happy with second place on 37.  Steady as ever, Rusty Barfield shot 18 points front and back to secure third place on 36.

Christen Boysen had the only 2’ of the day, but unluckily for him you need 10 players to have a ‘2’s comp.

Monday, July 11, Pattana B & C – Stableford

1st Neil Smith (37) 46pts

2nd Drew Niblock (18) 42pts

3rd Tip Briney (23) 42pts

Near Pins: Torben Lindgaard & Manfred Hanke.

Long Putts: Nigel Harrison.

Only 10 players today for Pattana but the scoring made up for it.  Neil Smith, who unwittingly donated his glasses to the monkeys halfway up a mountain in Kanchanaburi proved that he’s a better golfer half blind as he blitzed the field today with 46 points.

Drew Niblock and Tip Briney both shot great rounds of 42 points but where nowhere near the leader and Peter from Finland with 41 points didn’t even make the podium, which made a mockery of the course on which ony 3 golfers did not break their handicap.

Wednesday, July 13, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

1st Barry Oat’s (25) 42pts

2nd Manfred Hanke (30) 40pts

Near Pins: Mogens Melander.

Long Putts: Karl Diekman.

Another small field today for Royal Lakeside, mainly because we played every day this week and had bookings for Thursday and Friday as well. Still a good trip up the motorway andwe were at the course in 55 mins from Soi Buakhaow.  The weather was dry but overcast and the course as always in excellent condition, even though they are putting in new pipes for the sprinkler system – the turf is put back as soon as the pipes are put in and is no inconvinence to the golfer.

From the start it was always going to be Barry Oat’s day, a chip in par on the 1st setting the tone and he ended up with 42 points to take the win ahead of Frenchman Manfred Hanke with an almost equally fine round of 40 points.

Mogens Melander claimed the near pin and Karl Diekman the longest putt while Barry rounded off a great day for him by winning the lucky draw.

Friday, July 15, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Stuart Mann (21) 41pts

2nd Christen Boysen (9) 39pts

B Flight

1st Tip Briney (23) 39pts

2nd Torben Lindgaard (29) 36pts

Near Pins: Alistar Gall & Colin Davis.

Long Putts: Torben Lindgaard.

A little better turnout today with 17 players on a course that was very wet after recent rain, so carts on the path only and ‘lift clean and cheat’ being the rule of the day.

In the B flight, Tip Briney tore up the front nine with 21 points and rolled in with 39 overall to take the win ahead of playing partner Torben Lindgaard on 36.

In the top flight, Christen Boysen shot the lights out on the outward half with 22 points and it looked like it was going to be his day but too many 1-pointers on the inward half put that plan to rest. He eventually finished on 39 points and had to be content with second place as Stuart Mann crafted a fine round of 41 points for the flight victory.
