ID card office hours extended

The national referendum on the proposed constitution takes place Sunday, August 7.

Pattaya City Hall’s identification card registration office will be open this weekend to help people obtain valid IDs so they can vote.

“Yim!” Some people were seen over the weekend making their ID card. It could have been more packed but many people obviously didn’t know.

Office Director Kulsrininat Pornwantannan said July 31 that city leaders decided to open the office last weekend and Aug. 6-7 to ensure that most, if not all, residents have their ID cards before they vote.

Requiring valid IDs helps ensure votes cast are genuine, fair and correct and make sure Election Day goes as smoothly as possible.

The office will be open Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact the Pattaya Call Center at 1337.

Polling places will be set up at local Administration Offices and at some schools and temples, and voting will take place from 08.30 to 16.30 Sunday.

Police and volunteers will be on standby to promote safety.

Note: The law prohibiting the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages will be in effect. This means that, by law, bars must be closed by 6:00 p.m. Saturday night, August 6 and remain closed until the end of Sunday, August 7. The “no alcohol rule” applies to all entertainment areas, including restaurants, although restaurants may remain open if they do not sell alcohol. It is also prohibited to give away free alcoholic beverages, even at private parties.

The law is as follows: Election laws of municipalities (year) 2482, amended 2523, section 12CH states: “…as of 18:00 hours on the day before the election until the end of the day of the election, it is forbidden for anyone to sell, distribute, give away alcohol or have parties or social events that have alcohol served…” Section 76 states: “…whoever breaks this law is subject to a fine of no more than 10,000 baht or jail of no more than 1 year or both…”
