BANGKOK, 10 July 2012 – Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong has indicated that the 2-trillion-baht investment in the development of basic infrastructure is aimed to further promote economic growth in Thailand in the next 10-15 years.
Mr. Kittiratt said the government’s budget allowance of 1.6-2 trillion baht for basic infrastructure development is in compliance with the initial investment plan worth 2.27 trillion baht. Expected to be completed in 7 years, he explained that the plan will help bolster the country’s basic infrastructure in order to support the economic expansion in the next 10-15 years.
However, the Finance Minister said related agencies will need to conduct a study on the project before its implementation. He added that it will mostly be focused on improving the transport networks, communication systems and customs services at the border. He also assured that the money will not be spent on irrelevant matters.
Meanwhile, when asked about the Constitution Court’s ruling on the charter amendment bill this Friday, the Minister refused to express his opinions, saying that he wanted nothing but mutual understanding among those with different political beliefs.
