The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand has forecast the coming of the Perseid meteor shower on Mother’s Day.

The occurrence will be visible nationwide, and there will also be a new moon on the same day, which is expected to create optimal conditions for observing the meteor shower, also known as “shooting stars”, as the new moon will allow for a dimmer night sky, though potential storm clouds could obscure the view in some areas.

Those interested are encouraged to observe the night skies from midnight on August 12th until the early hours of the 13th.

Deputy Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, Dr. Saran Potyachinda, said many meteor showers occur throughout the year, but the Perseid meteor shower is especially noteworthy as it generally occurs annually between August 12th and 13th and its brightness is considered second only to the Leonid meteor shower.

The Perseid meteor shower is very colorful and around 150 falling meteors can be seen per hour, peaking between 2 and 3 a.m.
