PSC Golf from the Growling Swan

Monday, August 8, Plutaluang – Ambrose

We ventured out to play Plutaluang in memory of Tony Olcorn (Spagoni) who unfortunately passed away on this course 2 years ago.  Forty players turned out to play, which in itself as a great recognition of Tony’s popularity.  It needs to be mentioned that 8 guys flew in from Brisbane Australia to take part in this day, namely Aaron Shorten, Jason Grainger, Wayne Johnson, Mick Seaton, Butcha Seaton, Allan Upington and Dave Marshall, with a special mention to Mick MacGregor who was involved with a lot of the organization.  Not to be overshadowed were the 30+ locals who also fronted up to play, I guess Tony will not be forgotten whilst we celebrate this day.

The winning team: Mike Gosden with Bucha Seaton, Shane Young and Stuart Rifkin.

On another note it needs to be mentioned that the Queenslanders visited the Pattaya Orphanage and shelled out some big bucks, supplying this organization with food to help cater for the many children there.

Ten groups of 4 took to the challenge of playing from the yellow tees on the North and West nines.  The marshall on the day let us have two starting points and this meant that 5 groups went from North and the other 5 groups teed from West course.

The course was in good condition as you would expect from this Navy run establishment.  This scribe considers that the greens have become a lot slicker than in the past, but played reasonably true today considering the constant heavy traffic.  As per usual, the gnarly crabgrass lies took their toll on most of the field.

The quartet of Stuart Rifkin, Mike Gosden, Shane Young & Bucha Seaton came in first with a fine net 53.6 off their combined 11.3-handicap.  In second place were Sal Brizzi, Wayne Johnson, David Marshall & Mick Seaton (10.5) on net 55.5 and third spot went to Glenn Henriksen, Tony Cook, Rick Spargo & Paul Jackson (11.8) with net 56.2.

Back at ‘The Swan’ all agreed it was a fine day with a great crew of golfers and Tony would have been proud of us!  Peter Grey was thanked for the fine spread of food which I have to say was polished off in no time at all.

Note: The GS is a friendly golf outlet and welcomes golfers of all persuasions.  We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. For some serious golf with a dash of fun, please contact Peter Grey for bookings or any information on 0861 503086.
